Lola

November 19, 2016 by

Lola (12) is our black lab and Gogo (5) is our 130 lb. bull mastiff.

Raising a bull mastiff with a lab caused the mastiff to have some unusual talents. Lola taught Gogo how to swim. Mastiffs aren’t swimmers, they are sinkers. Lola also taught Gogo how to play frisbee. They played together every day and both had to bring it back. Lola even played keep away. What a pair they were.
6 weeks ago Lola had a hard time getting up off the floor for breakfast. A vet came to the house and we thought it was time. Gogo came over and laid next to Lola while the vet checked her out and prescribed some pain medication. It helped and in no time they were off on walks together again.
Two weeks after this, Gogo was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in a femur. The day I got the news I came home and sobbed on the floor with both my dogs next to me. We decided to go for it, and she has had radiation and now 3 chemo appointments. After each appointment, Lola would check on Gogo each time she walked through the door. She always seemed to sniff the leg with the cancer.
Now it’s been 4 weeks and it was confirmed with an xray that Lola had a compressed vertebrae and was in severe pain. We called Home to Heaven that night. This photo is so much more then just sisters.  Crazy story, right?
I wish I was making all that up but it’s been just six weeks. Don’t feel you have to tell the whole thing. But is is strange the one we thought would die first was there for the other one. What ever you decide to put with it, can you at least share their names?

What a journey.
Kris
